Root canal treatment usually takes one to two appointments to complete. During the visit, local anesthesia is used to numb the affected area. The root canal is then cleaned to remove dead and infected tissues. Once cleaned, the root canal is filled and sealed with a temporary filling. If the tooth is vulnerable and may suffer from damage, the dentist will recommend a crown to cover the tooth for strength and protection.
